Frederick Stars Hockey

Whether it is truly needed or not, the Stars will take their league leading 4-1 record into a 2-week summer break. No, there isn't an all-star game scheduled but a much needed infrastructure upgrade at the pond. Apparently they found a pair of panties and some band-aids holding the refrigeration unit together after re-starting rink 2. There was also a balled up Coast Guard uniform?

Anyway, the Stars probably could use a little time off after the 5-9 drumming by the capital punishment. Not sure how the 5-5 tie in the 2nd period ended in such a horrible loss, it happened so quickly that I don't really remember seeing any of the goals. Its possible that player moves after the 2nd period resulted in less than potent defense?

Corresponding with the loss were an unusually high number of stars penalties. After achieving an unprecedented 4 straight games (a stars record) with fewer penalties than our opponents, the Stars had a 24-2 penalty minute ratio, including Scott G's 10-minute game misconduct penalty that makes him the Stars and the entire SFAHL PIM leader.

What the hell happened to Mike Reilly? After receiving several criptic e-mails about "I'll see you at the next game" the Stars management has placed Mike on 10-week Injured Reserve. Apparently he has a large amount of sand lodged in his feminine region.

We seem to have lost another player due to girlfrienditis? Rocco mysteriously showed up for the first game of the session with his large calves, and girlfriend/fiance in tow, but hasn't reappeared since? Hurry back Rocco, we need your...well... sense of humor?

Speaking of girlfriends, Jim or is it Matt? had his lady friend at the game the other day. Not sure that is a wise move with "best friend" Wes on the prowl? Be warned, as a Marine Wes has sworn to uphold democracy and mount anything with 2 legs (and the legs part is optional).

It’s true. It would appear the Blues’ very own porn star has opted to cover his head for safety reasons. Many of us will remember the incident where another man’s stick accidentally smacked Dirk in the face. It is easy to understand why he might have been upset. When asked about his decision to cover the head, Dirk told us, “One of my biggest fears is taking a shot in the face. That is just something that nobody wants in this line of work. As for the extra gear, it is becoming more and more accepted. There are certainly some downsides, but I no longer feel that I have to let it all hang out anymore.”

It’s hard to blame him. This is a dangerous activity and not everyone out there is going to be clean. It doesn’t matter if we are talking about newcomers or veterans; you’ve got to watch out because one mistake can leave you with a permanent reminder.

Dirk further explained his decision by saying, “In this business, you’ve got to be careful. It’s foolish to work here without the proper protection. I unfortunately had to learn the hard way.”

The decision to wrap it up is one that every man must decide for himself. There are pros and cons, but an increasing trend seems to side with safety. The sentiment among participants appears to have shifted away from blaming others to only blaming oneself. One must ask, ‘what did I do to avoid this?’

When asked how the extra gear will impact his game, Dirk told us that, “My performance is pretty important, but my endurance comes first. When you’re in the heat of the moment and sticks are flying left and right, I’ve got to be able to do my thing. It does me no good if I have to sit on the sidelines watching all the other men do the scoring. The cover on my head may slow me down a bit and it may not be as enjoyable, but at least I won’t have anymore premature finishes.”

Okay, we lost our first game of the session. Fireworks?!?!? Yeah we had some but, we are the only ones who can call "Bullshit" on each other no one else has that privilege. We lost a close game 8-3, yeah that is close. Trust me, I am a Government
Contractor!!!!!

I am looking forward to our meeting with our favortite team, "The Blues" on thursday 2/11/10 at 10pm (2000 for military and Europeans!)

So, what team will show up? The one with sore backs from shoveling snow for three friggin days? Or the one with swagger???

You can tell I have the swagger but, my fellow STARS can you still dial it up?

BTW, I have had a coupla of Yuengling's, so as we use to say "I am talking smart!"

After a 3-0 start and a combined 24-5 gf/ga the Frederick Stars are once again the top of the SFAHL hockey league. It would be nice to think we all worked out and improved our game over the month long mid-winter hiatus, but in reality it must be due to the blockbuster layer acquisitions that part-time player/GM Steve (the rocket) Vandeventer was able to pull off.
We welcome Eric, Bryce, Sam and all other newcomers to the squad.

Of course there is always the concept of addition by subtraction... I won't go there, but wish Scott and Scott a restful winter, we hope you rejoin the team in the spring/summer.

HAMMERTIME

The Stars had a pitiful Fall winning only 3 games in the regular season and falling hard to the Capital Punishment in the first playoff game. Have we lost our mojo?

Time to buckle down for the real session, a little extra time in the weight room, perhaps a few more sessions of cardio per week? whatever you need to do, lets ensure were 100% come mid-Jan.

Rumor has it long time Stars regular Scott Guenthner is tied up running for Governor this winter and will be unavailable for action. Due we need to call Pryor back from the motherland? We will miss you Scott, hopefully we can keep you on the roster in case your campaign is derailed by scandal (you should probably remove the 3,000 empty beer cans in your recycle bin?)

On a more positive note, Tommy Taylor (Rogers pride and joy) has now scored his second goal for the Linganore JV team, by my count thats one more than Dad, of course no one is counting except Tommy and I.

I want to wish all a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Kwanzaa or maybe you celebrate Festivus? either way, celebrate safely, we can't lose anymore good players. If your not a good player go ahead and be reckless...

These are real PIM totals from Sunday nights Stars Huskies matchup. Stars players were nailed for not raising there hand before asking Questions(2 min minor), wandering the ice without a signed hall pass and skating near Huskie JV players during an apparent on ice diving drill. This was unsettling for Stars players who normaly earn there PIM's fair and square. Attempts to explain the lopsidedness were narrowed down to hormonal imbalances suffered by on ice staff or a full moon. Who knows?
The bag over the head, kick in the sack of it is it was a great game. Stars goalie "Gump" stood on his un-concussed head and kept the Stars in the game. Stars scored first on an un assisted laser from D-man Roger. Huskies tied it up in the 2nd then scored on a 2 min. 5 on 3. They added a 3rd goal in the third on a rare 6 on 2. Final 3-1
Stars D-man Roger was accidently injured by an on ice collision. Right knee, did not look good, hope all is well Roger.
